I have one smoking deal at a steal of a price. This is a DYI, Semi-guided hunt with a Voucher for a buck Mule Deer during the 3rd season. The voucher can be used unit wide in GMU741 or on the property it is assigned located south west of Durango. It is attached to a 385 acre area with a couple of old alfalfa fields (140 acres) and several draws of piñon and juniper mix with large sagebrush. There is also a larger canyon with a year-round creek, a regular water source for numerous deer.
Typically the deer pattern in the alfalfa during the morning and evening hours and bed in the piñon, juniper and large sagebrush in the draws around the alfalfa. The does are very dependable to see every day. The bucks start being a showing in November and the voucher is good for the 3rd season November 1-9, allowing you access for a 9 day hunt if you wish.
Of course a cold snap is great to get things moving early. In addition there is 40 acres of adjacent land that the owner can get you access to for the hunt. The owner has hunted this property since he was a boy and has taken a lot of deer off of it in the past years. Because of that he know all of the honey holes, best places to put your time where to walk and where to sit and let the deer move to you. He will provide you with all of that and a map of the area so that you know the property boundaries and the places that the deer bed, water source location and so on. At that time you are on your own for a DIY Hunt.

The reputation of Colorado?s Eastern Plains speaks for itself for big mule Deer. For Big Mule Deer the buck must survive through 5 hunting seasons. The food sources out a on the plains are good and run from winter wheat, creek bottoms and depending on the water availability alfalfa.
This is a Semi-Guided Ranch hunt but the license is available via a voucher only. The voucher and semi-guided hunt is $xxxx reduced down to only $xxxx, there are 2 for GMU118 and two for the adjacent land GMU123. These units are mostly private property and your voucher license will allow you to not only use it on the ranch but also anywhere in their respective units.
GMU118 has about xxxx acres of Public trust Land, Turkey Track Ranch land
GMU123 had about xxxx acres of BLM east side of the GMU
The ranch has a number of deep draws and creek bottoms that the local herds frequent. The rancher will show you where to find the highest deer concentration points on the property. Since these deer don?t migrate but just does some movement as food sources change they are much more dependable than mountain deer. I would plan on shots being 100-200 yards but in this is open landscape I would practice at 300 yards if possible in case a big buck slips out of the bottom end of a creek or high weed patch. I recommend on focusing of these private land bucks in the morning and the public land bucks during mid-day.
The private land doesn?t see much traffic because there are only a handful of licenses issued each year. By the opening season date October 25th ?November 4th the best hunt dates are at the end of the season when the bigger bucks beginning to frequent the known doe areas and beat up trees and brush. The small bucks starting earlier are sparing playfully by then and can be stalked quite easily while the whole herds are being entertained by the event during morning and evening feeding. This is the best time during the plains early season to spot a great buck since there is no hunting pressure to disturb them.
This is a pre-rut time on the plains because with no one bothering them because of the few tags issued the bucks Testosterone is starting to build and as long as they aren?t spooked they will go with it. The does on the other hand are not ready but the bucks tend to begin checking them morning and evening so they won?t miss the event. Cold night or a snow or ran help to expedite the buck T levels and he acts on it. Watch out for the herds lead doe she is as sharp as ever and can spot or smell you and take the whole herd away in a flash, with the bucks usually tailing at the end. The license is a Mule deer license so you can shoot a mule deer or a whitetail.
Buy 1 at $xxxx or buy two or more at $xxxx each, take all 4 and make an offer.. Since the opening day is today is today, but no one has hunted this private ground the neighbors have just pushed more deer into this property think it is a protective preserve. They will be mistaken when you show up on the eastern plains with these 4 voucher deer license and your 300 yard rifle.
By the way the landowner has dropped the price to only $500 per voucher for youth and adults if you have a youth hunter in the group. So keep this in mind

Also anyone that hunts this hunt with him has 1st option to hunt with the outfitter on GMU083 next year. There is a possibility of a price hike next year on the hunt but if you hunt GMU081 the price for the GMU083 will be locked in at the earlier price.
Since the draw is over there is only vouchers left for GMU081 and it is COLORADO GMU080, GMU081 / Deer Rifle 3rd 11/1-11/9 2 $xxxx each
This hunt is not for the faint at heart! This is a hunt for 180 point plus RECORD CLASS muley?s, not trophy we are saying Record Class Muley?s on agricultural ground and on high plains. This is where the 200 class bucks come from. The outfitter only take a total of 7 hunters per year so that the high age bracket of these deer continue so they can show their genes since he consistently brings home the bacon. The agricultural area is a low impact hunt spot and stalk. The high plains are a walk and spot then stalk kind of hunt. One place or the other you will get your 1 in a million buck. Vouchers are available in rifle, muzzleloader and rifle season, one of each at this time.
Here are pics from bucks killed this year. I took six hunters and killed six bucks. I have taken 28 hunters on my leases since xxxx and killed 27 bucks. (The one guy that didn?t kill passed on some 180 class deer) Most average in the 180 class, some in the 170's and some in the 190's. Hunters with at least 3 pref. points should draw for next year. All of my land owner tag hunts are booked for a couple of years.
The hunt will be in Colorado GMU083 is a minimal license trophy hunt which takes about 4-5 points to draw as a hunter and 3 years as a landowner for the 2nd or 3rd season.
GMU081 is shadowed by GMU083 making it a sleeper but the bucks in that unit on this private property. These are great deer it is just that the ones on the GMU083 ranch are older by about 2 years. These bucks run about 150 to 180 which are great bucks but they don?t cross the magic 180 point line very often. This area can be difficult to draw but different from GMU083 the points are lower and there are usually find a voucher loose somewhere. Sometimes it is more difficult to find the voucher than the bucks? but that?s hunting.
The hunt alone without the voucher is $xxxx reduced down to only $ xxxx for this season on either property.
We do get vouchers and can provide them, until they are sold out. Then we can assist you in working with a 3rd party voucher.

This is all Non-Resident drawing statics for the trophy hunt in GMU083, Colorado.
The data was collected and Calculated from data provided by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife through multiple drawing statistics pages. In doing so we did not see any point creep for the Non-Resident that was significant. The Resident points did break the barrier for 3-4 on the 2nd season hunt which isn?t listed here.
Second Season is DM083P2R which in the previous draw information a Non-Resident required 4 points to draw. There were 30 licenses available.
With the 30 licenses available there would be more licenses for the Non-Resident hunter but after that all of the non-residents that applied had 3 points or less while resident had 4 the residents absorber more than the 75% because their points were higher than 4.
Third Season is DM083P3R which in the previous draw information a Non-Resident required 4 points and a resident 3 points to draw.
In this season 4 Resident put in with 4 points each and they all drew. The other Non-residents had fewer points so a good calculation was not available but 5 would be the number following the algorithm above.
Fourth Season is DM083P4R which in the previous draw information a Non-Resident required 6 points to draw. This one is difficult to estimate for the future and there are only a total of 4 licenses available. Someone or 2 putting in with 10 points for instance can change the outcome of what the lowest amount of points were required. Even looking at historical data is not overly reliable it just provides more points to chart by but the bottom line is there is insufficient amount of data to get a good estimate.
The bottom line is this. A Non-resident looking at the information viewed and calculated with the CPW Hunt planner, looking at all of the data available indicated that a Non-Resident with 6 point and Resident with 5 points should draw for the 2nd Season October 22-26th. That exact question asked by myself to the Hunt Planner got the same response.
Although we do not have control of the CWP License draw they do provide the information above from their draw results. From that a calculation of the data by a CPW Hunt Planning Professional can provide what would be the outcome today if our points were put in at the time of the historical data draw. With that said the data points to the direction that you should draw with a 2 point margin.
The landowner vouchers for GMU083 are extremely limited and usually spoken for a year in advance. With that said hunts in GMU081 has good bucks but average about 2 years younger and of course run smaller a 160 to 180 is the norm.
Hunters can fly into Alamosa, Colorado,
Transporting trophies out depends on client most use my taxidermist cost of taxidermy work and meat processing is paid by client.
There is an observer cost of $500 if an observer is along for the hunt.
The hunt includes landowner vouchers trespass rights lodging meals and guide does not include license fees taxidermy work or meat processing and meat shipping.
Lodging is local hotel 30-40 minutes from hunting area.
The outfitter will send a welcome letter at the time of booking and receipt of the deposit with all of the details about the hunt.
ATV?s & Pickups will be used during the hunt as needed. The outfitter and guide is one person with years of experience in taking these big bucks. Skinning and caping is included but meat processing is not although it is available locally for about $200.
A spotting scope is not needed but a good pair of binoculars is required.
Typically you will be taking mule deer bucks that will score 180 plus.

There will be a moderate degree of physical required on this hunt due to the terrain and the sharp senses of mule deer of this caliber. Hunting will be mostly spot and stalk. You will be hunting private land. There is a total of 10,000 acres, xxxx being agriculture ground with river bottoms, xxxx being rim rock high desert with Rio- Grande River running through it.
This is not a high fence hunt but a fair chase hunt so there no guarantees that you will fill or the size of the buck you will fill with. The three things, the weather, the deer, and you?re shooting, all of which are out of my control all I can do is provide you with the history of bucks taken in the past.
In saying that I will say there are Boone & Crockett bucks that live on my leases as you can tell by the bucks killed last year and the year before will see anywhere from 30-40 bucks a day in the last three years have had 100% success rate from bucks scoring from 165-218 only taking seven hunters per year so deer have a chance to reach trophy potential. The dates of the hunt don?t change things much since the herd is a resident herd and don?t leave the property year around for the most part.Greg Merriam
